About

I live in New York City and I'm surrounded by books all day and when I go home I have more books waiting for me. Read my "About" page on top to see what I mean. I just want to share my book experiences and my love of all-things-books, with hopefully the occasional review thrown in. If you wish to contact me, the address is polishoutlanderATgmailDOTcom

Review: Strange Angels by Lilli St. Crow

Summary: Dru Anderson has what her grandmother called “the touch.” (Comes in handy when you’re traveling from town to town with your dad, hunting ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and the occasional zombie.) Then her dad turns up dead—but still walking—and Dru knows she’s next. Even worse, she’s got two guys hungry for her affections, and they’re not about to let the fiercely independent Dru go it alone. Will Dru discover just how special she really is before coming face-to-fang with whatever—or whoever— is hunting her?

I cannot and will not lie: this one frustrated me.  Dru bothered me–a lot! After the zombification and death of her father, I just wanted her to get over it and move on and take some action. If she was being touted as this Buffy-esque babe with great fighting skills, then why not use them? Where’s the attitude? Dru was just too whiny for me. I know there is a sequel coming but I felt that half of the book could have been cut to make room for what is to come in the sequel anyway, like the part about her mother, and Dru’s own potential powers. At the very end of it, I kept thinking, “So, what the heck happened here?” Nothing climactic (oh yes, she is special), she has two boys interested in her, she has a mysterious background/family past…but it was dragged out for too many pages. Also, it was just a bit “busy” in terms of all the supernatural characters. Dru’s “touch” wasn’t clearly explained, nor was it used effectively. In all honesty, I doubt I will be picking up the second book. The characters were not that interesting, the plot in this first book was just too stale…I had to force myself to finish this.

I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t. Nothing I can do about it.

I agree with you, I’m reading Strange angels and it’s not what I had hoped for it to be. Lots of things are left unexplained, or very loosely explained, and Dru isn’t as BA as i thought she was going to be.

I thought it was an awesome book! I agree that Dru wasn’t as much a fighter as I thought she would be, but I think that overall she was a strong character. I’m definately getting the sequel!!
