I live in New York City and I'm surrounded by books all day and when I go home I have more books waiting for me. Read my "About" page on top to see what I mean. I just want to share my book experiences and my love of all-things-books, with hopefully the occasional review thrown in. If you wish to contact me, the address is polishoutlanderATgmailDOTcom

Speculative Fiction Challenge 2010

So I’ve decided to take the plunge and join in on this Challenge for 2010:

Timeline: 1st Jan 2010~ 31st Dec 2010. Only books started on January 1st count towards this challenge.

There are four levels:

• Inquisitive – Read 3 Speculative Fiction novels.

• Enthusiastic – Read 6 Speculative Fiction novels.

• Addicted – Read 12 Speculative Fiction novels.

• Obsessed – Read 24 Speculative Fiction novels.

- Science Fiction
sub-genres: hard/soft SF, cyberpunk, time travel, alternative history, space opera

- Fantasy Fiction
sub-genres: dark fantasy, urban fantasy, magic realism, quest, mythical fantasy, steampunk

- Horror Fiction
sub-genres: paranormal, gothis literature, splatterpunk

- Supernatural Fiction
- Superhero Fiction
- Utopian and Dystopian Fiction
- Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction

I think I’m going to start out with INQUISITIVE and then see how it pans out. Right now, the books I want to read for this challenge are:

Stray by Rachel Vincent
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson Book 1) by Patricia Briggs (this one is currently on its way from PBS)
Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison

These are the sorts of books I have never really read and want to branch out of my comfort zone and check them out to see what all the fuss is about. If I start liking them, I might add others of the this same genre and maybe reach Enthusiastic. But these urban fantasy books are what I’m going to focus on for this challenge. We’ll see how it goes!
